This photo artwork takes part of the famous Vanitas series by Antonio Guccione. In this series Antonio Guccione creates skulls that have been scientifically researched to emulate the people they represent in his photographs. The work titles always contain the place and the year of death of the pictured personalities. Therefore, his skulls – all things considered – are still portraits, which he tells with childish enthusiasm and darting eyes gleaming with pride. This game is at the same time pop and deeply conceptual, although each portrait is unique, also in terms of procedures, meanings, symbolisms and associations.
Marilyn Monroe tilts her head, and that minimal angle is enough to illuminate everything with a tragic light (even though it is one of the few shots dominated by white) and turn the bone furrow into a tear.
