‘Operation oil freedom’ is one of Fairey’s many works that simulate Soviet propaganda to illustrate the excesses of American neo-liberalism by drawing attention to the oil industry and the implacable power of those who control it. Fairey leads the audience to consider the fact that manipulation and control, which can take more complex and sophisticated forms in the United States, is no less nefarious than the example of a totalitarian state such as the USSR was at the time.
