Andrea Gallo

Andrea Gallo's work plays with the evocative power of painting. Through depiction, he sketches out stories that do not seek a sense-making effect or verisimilitude and do not unfold in a logical sequence. The subjects and events he characterizes stem from images sourced from private photographic archives, vintage magazines, and newspapers—images that are both anonymous and intimate. The result of this recombination is a kind of visual enigma that viewers are free to interpret and solve as they wish.

His images seem to take shape from a Hitchcock film, and one can also sense the influence of David Lynch. Among his characters, a lack of communication often lingers, even when a familial bond should naturally connect them.

Andrea Gallo was born and raised in Cosenza in 1975, educated in Architecture at Reggio Calabria University and in Entertainment Design at the “Digital Art Academy” in Florence. After several years of work as a scenic artist for theatrical and audiovisual companies and further experience as a graphic designer Gallo actually works exclusively as a painter.
